Familiar faces are one of the joys of life. Simple pleasures.
They boost hope and moral for someone who is perhaps feeling down, someone who has lost their way, or feeling lonely and forgotten. The power of a familiar face can be hugely underestimated, and what recent events can show us is that the importance of familiarity should be ignored at your peril.
I recently worked for ten weeks in Germany for a company with which I already had a connection. This was a familiar company. I knew the employees, I knew what the company did, and I knew the work I was doing.
