This blog’s expressed concern for America’s political development is nothing to do with America, really. The worries are rooted in the indisputable fact that the U.S. is, after all, the planet’s most powerful nation, which is not to say that I’m not concerned for Europe.
Au contraire Europe is pretty much the same, with upcoming elections in a large number of countries this year, many of whom readily prepared to follow America’s lead, inspired by the American alt-right movement’s huge success.
Unfortunately we see a nationalist wave sweeping, not only the west, paving the way for continued disintegration (last year’s Brexit may soon seem a pale memory, compared to what’s in store).
Seeing European nationalists convening in Koblenz this weekend sent shivers down my spine, echoing German 1930s beer halls.
It’s every man, every country for him and itself, folks. We have a terrible year ahead of us.
